A temporary ceasefire between Ukraine and the Russian Federation has been announced on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), temporarily occupied by Russian forces. The agreement aims to allow for repairs to be carried out on damaged power transmission lines necessary for the safety of the facility.

According to a statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the ceasefire was agreed with its mediation. Repair work has already begun and is expected to continue for several days.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed his gratitude to both sides for the understanding reached, which is necessary to prevent further risks.

Earlier, it was reported that as a result of a massive air attack by the Russian army against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, strikes were carried out on substations connected to two Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP, which before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion provided about 20% of the electricity in Ukraine and allowed for energy exports to Europe, is currently under Russian occupation. According to Ukrainian authorities, the plant is used as a military base, and shelling against the city of Nikopol on the opposite bank of the Dnieper is carried out from its territory.
