Bulgarian households held €57.22bn in bank accounts at the end of September. That is 16.2% more than a year earlier, according to Bulgarian National Bank data.

Growth is slowing. In August, household deposits were up 17.2% on the year.

Deposits from the whole non-government sector, meaning households and firms, total €87.59bn. That equals 68.2% of forecast gross domestic product, the value of everything the country produces in a year. Annual growth in these deposits was 12.9% in September, down from 15.4% in August.

Non-financial firms hold €27.95bn, up 7% on the year. The slowdown is sharper here, as growth in August was 12.7%.

Only deposits from financial firms are growing faster. They total €2.41bn, up 9.3% on the year, against annual growth of 5.8% in August.
