Leading Bulgarian tennis player Victoria Tomova suffered a defeat in the initial phase of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament being held in the Canadian city of Montreal. The competition, which has a prize fund of 5.15 million dollars, proved to be a challenge for the 30-year-old from Sofia.

In a closely contested match, qualifier Tomova lost to her American opponent Danielle Collins after an extremely dynamic match that lasted 91 minutes. The result of 3:6, 5:7 reflected the complex battle between the two competitors.
