Viktoria Angelova – the new queen of the triple jump
17-year-old Viktoria Angelova brought great joy to Bulgaria by winning the gold medal in the triple jump at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
The protégée of legendary coach Georgi Pomashki achieved the winning result of 13.91 meters in a dramatic series of attempts. Despite the strong headwind, she managed to outperform her competitors from Romania and Spain.
This is the second major triumph for Angelova, who less than a month ago also captured the European title in Rieti with a personal best of 13.98 meters.
Bulgarian participation in Eugene
With this gold, Bulgaria solidified its place in the Top 15 of the championship. The Bulgarian team performed at a high level, recording:
- Finalists in the persons of Zynga Barbosa Firmino and Dimo Andreev;
- A national record for the 4x100m mixed relay;
- A historic run by Hristiyan Kasabov in the 110m hurdles.
