The team of "Bulgarian Water Supply and Sewerage Holding" conducted a large-scale inspection campaign in Pleven region, which revealed serious violations in water usage. Since the beginning of 2025, thirty official protocols have been drawn up for illegal use of water supply services.
Targeted inspections, carried out on August 5 and 6, covered seven municipal districts. The most violations were registered in the city of Pleven - a total of 14 cases, followed by Knezha with 7 cases, Dolna Mitropoliya with 5 cases, Cherven Bryag with 2 cases, and one case each in Levski and Nikopol.
During the inspection, nine illegal water connections were discovered, concentrated mainly in two regions: four in Bukovlak village and five in Cherven Bryag city. As a direct measure to stop the violations, water supply was cut off to three properties with chronic debts in Cherven Bryag.
The financial damages from illegal water usage are significant - the total value of additionally charged consumption exceeds 43,000 leva including VAT. Individual charges range between 1,000 and 5,000 leva.
The management of "Water Supply and Sewerage" Ltd. - Pleven emphasizes the critical situation with water reserves in the ten serviced municipalities. The situation is especially concerning in the municipalities of Pleven, Levski, Dolni Dabnik, and Dolna Mitropoliya, where a drastic decrease in available water quantities has been observed over the past two years.
In response to the deepening crisis, proposals to ban the use of drinking water for non-drinking purposes were sent at the beginning of July. The situation in Pleven municipality is defined as the most critical, which makes any unregulated water usage completely unacceptable.
The management of Water Supply and Sewerage-Pleven announced that it will continue its active efforts to limit illegal water usage, with a priority focus on the territory of Pleven municipality. All territorial bodies have already issued orders for strict regulation of water usage.
"Bulgarian Water Supply and Sewerage Holding" calls on citizens to consume responsibly and fully comply with the introduced restrictions. Upcoming inspections will be concentrated in settlements with a high risk of shortage and atypical water consumption.
This large-scale initiative is part of a broader national strategy of the holding for internal control and effective management of water resources, launched at the end of last month with inspections in various regions of the country.
