On July 15, 2025, around 2:30 PM in the small provincial settlement of Dolni Dabnik, a dramatic road incident occurred that threatened the life of an elderly cyclist. The road accident took place on Hristo Yanchev Street, where an 84-year-old man made a risky left turn on the roadway.
According to initial police data, the elderly cyclist failed to correctly assess the situation and did not take into account a nearby moving car. Behind the wheel of the vehicle was a 71-year-old driver who was passing by the elderly cyclist at that moment.
Immediately after the incident, the victim's initial reaction was to refuse medical assistance. However, his health condition deteriorated so drastically that immediate hospitalization in the Neurosurgery Department of a Pleven hospital was required.
Medical specialists define the elderly man's condition as extremely serious, with a direct threat to life due to a brain hemorrhage. Doctors are taking intensive therapeutic measures to stabilize him.
Police officers conducted a thorough examination of the scene, checking both the motor vehicle and the bicycle. Both participants in the incident were tested for alcohol with a technical device, and the test results were negative.
The District Prosecution Office in Pleven was immediately notified of the incident, and a pre-trial proceedings were initiated. All circumstances surrounding this incident, which shocked the local community, are yet to be clarified.
The case once again draws attention to the need for increased caution and care from elderly participants in traffic, especially when operating two-wheeled vehicles in populated areas.
