Yesterday, another escalation of the conflict in the Black Sea occurred after the Ukrainian Navy reported a successful operation against a communication node of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
The report, confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, indicates that the strike was carried out on the night of September 11 against a communication node located in occupied Crimea, on the territory of the 184th Scientific Research Experimental Base "Sevastopol".
According to some unofficial sources, the object is located in Koza Bay. The lack of official confirmation from the Russian side, as well as the silence from the Russian Ministry of Defence, remain notable.
Escalation of Tension
This is not an isolated incident. Tension in the region has been escalating in recent months. Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported a strike with attack drones against a Black Sea Fleet ship off the coast of Novorossiysk.
The target, according to the GUR, was a multifunctional vessel launched in 2015, identified by some media as "Ryatuvalnyk Demidiv".
These actions cast doubt on the Russian fleet"s ability to operate effectively in the Black Sea.
Statement by the Spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy
The statement by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletentchuk, caused widespread discussion. His initial claim that after regular Ukrainian strikes on objects in Crimea, Russia "had no combat-ready ships left" was later clarified.
On July 17, 2025, Pletentchuk clarified on Ukrainian television marathon that in Crimea "almost no combat-ready ships remain", as those that are still there are either technically faulty or not combat-ready.
He also stressed that Ukraine has not observed any Russian ships carrying "Caliber" missiles at sea.
Consequences and Concerns
However, even with the clarification, the statements of Ukrainian military experts point to a serious blow to the combat potential of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, with potentially serious consequences for Russia"s military strategy in the region.
The situation in the Black Sea remains tense, and the incidents highlight the importance of broader international dialogue to de-escalate the conflict and prevent escalation that could have unpredictable consequences for regional stability and international security.
There is concern about the possible increase in military actions in the region, while the lack of an official reaction from Russia further complicates the situation. Further developments are possible, requiring vigilant monitoring.
