Students from the “Road Safety” club at the Vocational High School of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering in Burgas visited the Court of Appeal in the city and spoke with Judge Martin Danchev, Deputy Chairman of the Court and Head of the Criminal Division. They were accompanied by their teacher and club leader Stanimir Velinov. This was reported by the press service of the Burgas Court of Appeal.

Judge Danchev acquainted the young visitors with the legal consequences in case of traffic accidents and with the responsibility of drivers. He explained the types of transport crimes, the way of establishing the parameters of the accident and the way in which guilty behavior is proven.

During the meeting, the consequences of driving a car after consuming alcohol and narcotic substances were discussed. The magistrate pointed out that if there are narcotic substances in the body, established during an inspection, the driver bears criminal responsibility regardless of whether an accident has occurred.

The students asked questions related to the responsibility for so-called drifts in parking lots and intersections, as well as in incidents on specially designated routes. Topics such as the quality of the road surface, the control of the average speed and measures for the prevention of road injuries in our country and in other European countries also sparked interest. Judge Danchev also presented examples from his judicial practice in cases of transport crimes. The latest changes to the Road Traffic Act were also considered, including the new requirements for drivers of bicycles and electric scooters.

For several years, the Court of Appeal in Burgas has been holding regular educational meetings with students, aimed at clarifying the legal framework in the field of road safety and raising the awareness of young people about their responsibility as road users.
