A New Era in Turkish Airlines Long-Haul Flights
Turkey's national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, is planning a major fleet renewal that will change the way we travel to the most distant points on the planet. The company has ordered specially configured Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, designed for ultra-long-range flights.
The new aircraft will enable direct flights lasting up to 17 hours, connecting Istanbul with destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne, Buenos Aires, and Lima.
Industry Challenges
Despite the ambitious plans, 2026 is shaping up to be a difficult period for the aviation sector. The management of Turkish Airlines points to several key factors:
- Significant pressure on fuel costs.
- Expected moderate capacity growth of just 1-2%, instead of the planned 7-8%.
- Need for adaptation following the end of the summer season.
Murat Şeker, the company's CFO, remains optimistic: "Our extensive network helps us effectively overcome challenges. We expect to finish the year with moderate growth and continue our development as planned until 2027, when the new aircraft will enter service."
