The strategic importance of aviation in Southeast Europe
The Southeast Europe region is becoming a critical logistics bridge between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. This was emphasized by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, during the Green Transition Forum 6.0 in Sofia.
"To improve connectivity, we must modernize infrastructure, increase sustainability, and invest significantly in human capital," the minister noted.
Main priorities for the sector:
- Modernization: Expanding the capacity of airports in the region.
- Integration: Connecting the railway and road networks with airport infrastructure.
- Green transition: Achieving higher energy efficiency at airports.
Minister Gvozdeikov highlighted the acute shortage of personnel – pilots, dispatchers, and IT specialists – calling for closer cooperation with universities. Bulgaria has a unique chance to take advantage of its strategic location through new cross-border projects.
