The expected growth in tourism in Bulgaria reaches an impressive 5-7% for the first half of the year, according to a statement by Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh during his visit to Kyustendil. This positive trend is observed both among foreign and domestic tourists, which is particularly notable against the backdrop of stagnation in some European destinations.

Bulgarian tourism is developing at a normal pace. We had a very strong winter season, and now the summer season is looking quite good

commented Minister Borshosh. He emphasized that despite visible signs of recovery, the sector has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels.

Particularly encouraging is the revival of the German market after intensive meetings with leading tour operators. The minister revealed that reservations for the 2026 season are already beginning, which indicates a sustained interest in Bulgaria as a tourist destination.

Borshosh highlighted ambitions for further development of the German and British markets, although both currently show positive dynamics. Romania, Poland, Turkey, and Israel have also been identified as key markets with excellent growth prospects.

The Ministry of Tourism is focusing on expanding mountain tourism beyond the traditional ski season, aiming to attract visitors year-round. This includes plans to improve accessibility and increase the number of lifts and slopes.

From September, we will start the big conversation about the development of mountain tourism

announced Borshosh.

During his visit to Kyustendil, the minister participated in the spiritual holiday "Panagia - raising of the bread" and held a meeting with Mayor Ognyan Atanasov. Opportunities for developing cultural-historical, mountain, and religious tourism in the region were discussed.

There need to be more accommodation places so that tourists can stay for more than a day. We will expand the festival and concert program to attract more tourists

stated Borshosh. Mayor Atanasov expressed satisfaction with the meeting and emphasized the need for a strong advertising campaign, for which he received assurances of support from the Ministry of Tourism.

This initiative is part of the ministry's broader strategy to support key tourist municipalities and improve Bulgaria's national presentation as an attractive destination. With coordinated efforts between local and national authorities, Kyustendil aims to solidify its position on Bulgaria's tourist map, offering diverse attractions and experiences for visitors.
