The Ministry of Interior's Toll: 18 Serious Accidents in 24 Hours
Heavy traffic in the country has once again taken its toll. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Interior (MoI), 18 serious traffic accidents were registered over the past 24 hours. 23 people were injured in the incidents, and fortunately, there were no fatalities.
In Sofia, the situation remains calmer – 23 minor traffic accidents were reported, in which no people were injured, only material damage occurred.
Statistics That Alarm
Data for the period shows a serious trend of deteriorating road safety:
- Since the beginning of the month: 48 lives lost in traffic accidents.
- Since the beginning of 2026: a total of 219 dead.
- Injured: 877 people for the month and 3,759 since the beginning of the year.
It is alarming that when compared to the same period last year (January-July 2025, when the death toll was 187), 2026 shows an increase of 32 more road traffic fatalities.
The Traffic Police urges for increased caution, maintaining a safe distance, and strict adherence to traffic rules.
