Tragic incident: Man lost his life in a fire
The past 24 hours were extremely busy for the teams of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection (GDFSCP). As of 6:00 a.m. this morning, the department confirmed 31 extinguished fires in the country, and unfortunately, one fatal case was registered – a 70-year-old man died in an incident.
A total of 90 incident reports were received by firefighters during May 17.
Incident statistics
- Fires with material damage: 10 cases, of which 8 in residential buildings and 2 in vehicles.
- Fires without material damage: 21 cases, including ignited waste, chimneys, cooking appliances, and dry grass.
Rescue activities
In addition to fighting fires, the teams carried out 55 rescue operations and assistance activities. Four of them were directly related to road accidents, where firefighters provided assistance in extricating victims or securing the site.
The GDFSCP also noted that four false alarms were registered during the day. Authorities remind citizens to be careful when handling appliances and to strictly follow fire safety rules.
