A dramatic incident shook the village of Pyasachevo this morning when a freight train of the private carrier "Bulmarket" suffered a severe accident with large-scale consequences. Official representatives of law enforcement and institutions immediately mobilized at the scene of the incident.
According to the initial information reported by Maria Kirilova from the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo, the signal to the police was received in the early morning hours - exactly at 5:25. The incident caused significant material damage, and an immediate pre-trial proceeding for a crime against transport was initiated.
Chief Commissioner Aleksandar Dhartov from the Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" confirmed the extremely serious circumstances: out of a total of 34 wagons in the composition, 13 have derailed, with eight of them being diesel fuel tanks. The depressurization of the tanks led to their ignition, which created a potential risk of a larger disaster.
Experts categorically emphasized that the damage was prevented thanks to the extremely quick and professional intervention of firefighters. Vice Prime Minister Grozdan Karadhzov, who arrived at the scene, personally underlined the importance of the timely reaction of the rescue teams.
Tonka Atanasova from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Haskovo reassured the public that the slightly elevated benzene levels in the air do not pose a direct danger to the local population. Additional reassurance is the fact that the alcohol tests of three train drivers were negative.
Currently, coordinated actions are underway to remove the derailed tanks under the leadership of Minister Karadhzov and Chief Commissioner Dhartov. The investigation continues.
