Three of the six buildings in the student campus in Burgas's Horizont district are at an advanced stage, mayor Dimitar Nikolov said. The investment is about €36m, and the complex is due to be finished in 2028.
On 14 October we wrote about the dormitories, lecture hall and study centre in the campus town, which is being built at the request of the heads of Burgas's four universities. Ground was broken in June 2025.
Where it began: Burgas is building a student campus with dormitories, an aula and a teaching data centre
"The student campus we are building in Burgas will be a place for today's awakeners," Nikolov said. He said the city must keep young talent, attract new people and become a leading academic and technology centre.
The campus covers 2.6 hectares next to the former Strand shopping centre. At its heart is a high-tech academic centre with science labs, teaching space, a data centre and co-working areas. Plans also include dormitories, sports facilities and charging stations for electric cars.
The aim is to bring together the strengths of the universities and give students, scientists and young professionals a modern place to study and work. The mayor describes the campus as a place for people who do science, spark students' passion for knowledge and develop their abilities. Nikolov believes it should also provide the right conditions for Bulgaria's minds.
The mayor says the project is strategic, and the municipal administration is running the construction. "Only education can lead us forward," Nikolov said.
