"Botev (Plovdiv)" officially introduced "Stanislav Genchev" as the new head coach of the representative team. For the specialist, this is his second spell in charge of the "Canaries", after briefly leading the team at the "Kolezha" in 2023. Now, he succeeds interim manager "Lachezar Baltanov", who remains on his staff.
At the press conference, Genchev emphasized that he feels significantly better prepared compared to his first period at the club and is confident that this time the results will be better. He defined his appointment as a great responsibility and a privilege.
New staff and continuity
"It is a huge honor for me and my team to take charge of such a great team as Botev (Plovdiv). There is a lot of work ahead, and Lacho Baltanov and I have already started working on selection, training camps, etc. Joining me are Zhivko Milanov, Yordan Gospodinov, and Dani Ivanov. Lacho Baltanov remains, as well as Ilian Gerenski, who were part of the team until now," declared Genchev.
He emphasized that continuity in the staff is important, as Baltanov and Gerenski know the squad and the internal atmosphere well. The new assistants are expected to bring fresh ideas and a different perspective on preparation and tactics.
Lessons from the first spell and Krumovgrad
Genchev did not hide the fact that his first period at Botev was difficult. "The fans stood behind us, and I do not want to go back to what problems we had with the previous management. I lost my reputation by going 6 matches without a win, but I gained a lot of experience. I would say that I learned much more, even from my period in Krumovgrad, for example, when we had quite good results," the manager commented.
He emphasized that the experience gained from different situations – both at Botev and other clubs – makes him more confident and better prepared to handle the pressure and expectations in Plovdiv.
Selection, style, and preparation
The new head coach also outlined the first steps in selection and preparation. "I expect to announce new players in the coming days. Work has been initiated for those we have requested. When a contract is signed, you will know immediately. The team has an established core, and we only need reinforcement in certain positions," explained Genchev.
"I expect to sign at least three quality Bulgarian football players. We gather on June 10 and will prepare entirely in Komatevo. We are looking for players in almost all lines, but only if we are sure they will bring us quality. We are looking for more aggressive players so that we can exercise pressure on our opponents," he added.
According to him, Botev will rely on a more aggressive style of play, with active pressing and high intensity, while building on the already established core in the dressing room.
More experienced coach, different situation
"Today I am much more experienced than during my first spell. The situation at the club is different. We have full trust, and I am convinced that the team's results will be good," Genchev was adamant.
He emphasized that he feels a more stable club environment and a clearer vision for the development of Botev, which gives him the confidence to commit to a longer-term project. The fans' expectations for the "Canaries" remain high, and the task before the new staff is to turn this potential into real results on the pitch.
