Recognition for long-standing academic contribution
The Council of Ministers has officially proposed to Vice President Iliana Iotova that Prof. Petko Chobanov be awarded the Order of "Saints Cyril and Methodius" – first degree. The distinction is awarded for his exceptional merits in the field of higher education in Bulgaria.
Prof. Chobanov is the founder of the Burgas Free University (BFU) in 1991 and has played a key role in its development as a modern academic center.
Modernization and international recognition of BFU
Under the leadership of Prof. Chobanov, the university underwent a large-scale transformation, including:
- Digitalization of the educational process and the introduction of modern forms of training.
- Expansion of educational programs.
- Strengthening international cooperation with over 36 leading scientific organizations worldwide.
Thanks to his efforts, the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights and Culture of Peace was established at BFU, which placed Burgas on the world academic map. Prof. Chobanov is also known for his support for young scientists and doctoral students, creating conditions for the development of scientific potential.
We remind you that in April, the government also proposed Prof. Alexander Andonov for the same order on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
