Changing your general practitioner – deadlines and procedures
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) reminds all insured persons that they have the right to change their general practitioner until June 30. The process is simplified and can be completed in two ways:
- In person: By filling out a permanent choice form, which is provided directly to the newly chosen doctor.
- Online: Through the NHIF portal in the "E-services" section using an electronic signature.
Important: You do not need to notify your previous doctor. De-registration from the current patient list is performed ex officio by the respective regional health insurance fund.
Temporary choice of doctor during a stay in another settlement
If you need to change your doctor temporarily, the rules are as follows:
- For a stay of up to 1 month: You can visit any general practitioner for an acute condition without the need for a health insurance booklet. The NHIF covers the examination ex officio.
- For a stay of 1 to 5 months: You have the right to a temporary choice of doctor in the area where you are staying. After the expiration of the period, you automatically return to the practice of your permanent doctor.
To find a new doctor, use the search engine in the "E-services" section of the NHIF website – Search for contracted partners and activities.
