Two new pre-trial proceedings from the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) has officially launched an investigation into the cases of Lot 4 of the Hemus motorway and the "Northern Speed Tangent" project. The inspections are being carried out in accordance with the Judicial System Act following the collection of evidence regarding criminal offenses.
The investigation covers the selection of contractors, the expenditure of budget funds, and the quality of construction works.
What are the projects being investigated for?
- Hemus Motorway: Investigation into mismanagement under Article 219 of the Penal Code – suspicions of failure to exercise sufficient care, which led to significant damages for "Avtomagistrali" EAD.
- Northern Speed Tangent: Official misconduct under Article 282 of the Penal Code, related to discrepancies in the thickness of the asphalt and concrete stabilization during the site's acceptance.
The actions and inactions of officials from "Avtomagistrali" EAD, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, and the Road Infrastructure Agency will be subject to inspection. The investigation has been assigned to investigators who will conduct interrogations of numerous witnesses and request the necessary expert reports to establish the objective truth.
We remind you that earlier, Minister Ivan Shishkov signaled a delay in the progress of files related to advance payments for the motorway and other infrastructure projects, which had remained stagnant for three years.
