The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) is starting the work of a Coordination Unit "Marine Policies" to achieve more effective management of processes and information related to the Black Sea. It will also be responsible for improving coordination between competent institutions and scientific organizations, the MOEW press center announced. The unit was created by order of the caretaker Minister of Environment and Water, Yulian Popov.

Experts in the Coordination Unit will work on the implementation of European legislation and the fulfillment of the country's international commitments related to the marine environment. Their main activities are related to the management of information and data on marine waters, as well as the introduction of scientific achievements and international experience in the field of monitoring and management of marine resources.

The MOEW and the Black Sea Basin Directorate are responsible for the development and implementation of the Marine Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria in accordance with the requirements of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, as well as for organizing the monitoring of marine waters, the relevant ministry points out. The efforts to increase the efficiency of work and increased control over the activities of the Black Sea Basin Directorate and the Institute of Oceanology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which monitors marine waters under the Water Act, will be concentrated in the new unit, the MOEW specified.

Among the specific tasks of the Coordination Unit "Marine Policies" are supporting the implementation of the country's obligations under the Convention for the Protection of the Black Sea, monitoring of marine waters, participation in joint inspections, etc.

I am starting decisive actions to open the primary data collected with public funds from institutions and structures in the MOEW system and from related contractors, wrote Minister Yulian Popov a few days ago on Facebook. According to him, this is a necessary step towards better management, better quality analyzes and faster investment decisions.
