The Sofia City Court has revoked the imposed bail of delivery driver Dimitar Davidov, who was detained following an incident involving "Democratic Bulgaria" MP Ivaylo Mirchev. The decision was announced at a briefing by "Vazrazhdane" leader Kostadin Kostadinov, who described the case as a "farce".
"Mr. Davidov received satisfaction regarding his appeal. The set bail was removed. The most important thing is that the court states the act for which he was detained and bail was imposed is not a criminal offense, meaning no crime was committed," stated Kostadinov.
According to him, it now remains to be seen what the prosecutor's office's actions will be regarding the case. "We all witnessed this farce," added the leader of "Vazrazhdane".
Following the court's decision, Dimitar Davidov himself announced that he expects a personal apology from Ivaylo Mirchev. "I want an apology in connection with what happened and my wrongful detention," he told reporters.
Davidov further pointed out that he has had no contact with the "Democratic Bulgaria" MP since the incident. When asked if there had been any physical altercation between the two, he answered in the negative. "I cannot say there was resistance or an attempt to strike from either my side or his," clarified the delivery driver.
He emphasized that he has kept his job and is grateful for the support he received. According to him, representatives of "Vazrazhdane" were among those who helped him, including by providing legal counsel.
Davidov also commented on the claims that he was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics during the incident. He explained that after realizing he was being sought, he voluntarily appeared at the Fourth District Police Department to provide explanations. "I was at work, and there is no way I would consume alcohol. All standard checks were performed," he declared.
Journalists asked why he left the scene immediately after the incident. Davidov replied that his workday had not ended and he had to continue with his deliveries to fulfill his professional duties.
Kostadin Kostadinov also joined the conversation, defending his actions. According to him, there was no reason for Davidov to remain at the scene. "No traffic accident occurred, there was no incident, there is no act that would require him to stay there," said the leader of "Vazrazhdane".
He added that every missed delivery means a loss for people like Davidov. According to him, Mirchev's actions caused direct financial damage to the delivery driver. "What Mirchev did cost an ordinary Bulgarian worker money. An apology is the least he can do," stated Kostadinov.
In his statement, the "Vazrazhdane" leader also directed political criticism at the "Democratic Bulgaria" MP. According to him, Ivaylo Mirchev should resign as chairman of the parliamentary group and withdraw from active politics.
"This was another clash between someone in power and an ordinary person. The person in power demonstrated arrogance, haughtiness, and contempt for a Bulgarian worker who, at the moment, only wants an apology," Kostadinov further stated.
