Incident with a Russian drone in Galați
Romania officially informed its NATO allies about a dangerous incident in which a Russian drone struck a residential building in the city of Galați. The attack was described by the Romanian Foreign Ministry as
"a serious and irresponsible escalation by Russia."
Details of the strike
At a press conference, it was confirmed that the drone was of the "Geran-2" type. The aircraft crashed into the roof of an apartment building around 2:00 a.m. According to experts from the Ministry of Defense, only luck prevented a tragedy:
- The drone hit the elevator shaft instead of a residential area.
- Had the impact been just a meter or two lower, the top floor slab would have been completely destroyed.
Consequences for the residents
As a result of the collision, a fire broke out, necessitating the evacuation of over 70 people. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but two people were injured. The fire has since been extinguished, and the material damage to the building's structure is significant.
NATO's reaction
The Alliance categorically condemned Russia's actions as "irresponsible behavior" and declared that it would strengthen its defensive capabilities against all potential threats, including enemy drones near the Alliance's borders.
