Budget Discipline and Priorities for 2027
Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that the main priority in the 2027 budget framework will be a significant reduction of the deficit and limiting external borrowing. During parliamentary control, he emphasized that the current difficult financial situation is the result of "voluntarism and populism" from previous administrations.
"We are committed to showing a significant reduction in the deficit with the 2027 budget," emphasized Radev.
Reasons for the deficit and measures for control
According to the Prime Minister, the critical state of the treasury is due to the systemic decapitalization of state-owned enterprises and the practice of collecting taxes in advance. Despite the pressure, the government refuses to implement restrictive measures that would affect:
- The incomes of working people;
- Investment processes in the economy;
- Pension growth.
Reforms and financial transparency
Radev promised full financial discipline and a large-scale audit of all payments committed to by previous governments without secured funding. Regarding administrative reform, the Prime Minister was adamant that it cannot be a "mechanical cut," but must undergo a comprehensive digitalization of activities.
