Romanian driver is in intensive care after a head-on collision near Petrevene

The Romanian driver of one of the trucks involved in the serious accident near Petrevene has been admitted to the "Heart and Brain" hospital in Pleven following an air medical evacuation.

The man was admitted with severe combined trauma. Doctors diagnosed a broken femur, a humerus fracture, six broken ribs, and facial trauma with lacerations and contusions.

Transportation by medical helicopter

Due to his serious condition, the patient was taken by medical helicopter directly to the medical facility in Pleven. The hospital has its own licensed helipad, which is among the busiest outside the capital.

The ability for the helicopter to land on hospital grounds reduces the transport time to specialized care. This is especially important for patients with multiple injuries and severe emergency conditions.

After landing, the injured man was taken over by a multidisciplinary medical team. The necessary examinations and treatment procedures were performed, and he is currently in the anesthesiology and intensive care unit, where his condition is being continuously monitored.

The accident occurred in the morning

The incident occurred around 7:35 a.m. on the Ruse–Sofia road, in the section between the villages of Rumyantsevo and Petrevene. A Bulgarian and a Romanian truck collided head-on.

Both drivers were injured in the accident. The condition of the Bulgarian driver has not been reported.

Specialized care in Pleven

The "Heart and Brain" hospital in Pleven possesses high-tech infrastructure and specialized teams for treating patients with severe and emergency conditions.

The helipad is part of the emergency medical assistance organization at the medical facility. It provides a fast connection between air evacuation, resuscitation, and specialized hospital units.
