The University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment in Burgas (UMBAL) once again marked a record for blood donors in 2025, the hospital's press center announced.

The Department of Transfusion Hematology set a goal to improve the record from 2024, when 10,833 people wanted to donate blood, and 9176 actually donated. In 2025, 11,213 people registered as willing to donate, and 9812 managed to donate blood, with the rest being rejected based on medical indicators.

The result builds on the success of 2024 and establishes Burgas as a leading example in the country in terms of voluntary and unpaid blood donation.

The data show a sustained growth trend and increased public engagement. Of the donors in 2025, 2060 were women, and 7752 were men. Especially encouraging is the fact that 3060 people donated blood for the first time, which indicates an expansion of the volunteer community and increased awareness among young people.

The donated blood has helped 12,237 patients admitted to all Burgas hospitals. These are people who have undergone emergency and planned operations, mothers, children, patients with oncohematological and chronic diseases, as well as those injured in accidents. Each donor has contributed to saving several human lives.

The management of UMBAL - Burgas expresses gratitude to all volunteers, to the institutions, organizations and municipalities in the region for their active support and partnership in the blood donation campaigns.

Part of the success is due to the outreach actions that the hospital intensified at the end of last year and the beginning of this year. The teams visited the municipalities of Nessebar, Karnobat, and on February 19th, an action is planned in Aytos. Observations show that more young people and women come during the outreach actions. A blood donor can be any healthy person between 18 and 65 years of age.
