In a heated commentary to the media, expert Prof. Veselin Vuchkov criticized the existing model of functioning of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, emphasizing the need for a large-scale institutional transformation.
According to the professor, the current system needs a comprehensive rethinking, which includes several key areas. First, he emphasized the need for thorough screening of employees - both from a physical and professional perspective.
"The structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs needs a serious reform," Vuchkov is categorical. He recommended creating lighter organizational units and freeing the department from secondary administrative activities that divert attention from its core functions.
The expert placed a strong emphasis on the financial aspect, reminding that citizens finance the system and have the right to expect efficiency. Particularly indicative is the 50% salary increase since the beginning of the year, which in his opinion requires corresponding professional dedication.
In the context of the upcoming vote of no confidence, Vuchkov described what is happening as a "political exercise" whose essence is more aimed at discrediting a specific minister rather than a substantive discussion of reforms.
Regardless of the political context, the professor emphasized that constructive lessons for improving the work of the police and fire service could be drawn from such parliamentary discussions.
Commenting further on another current issue related to road safety, Vuchkov pointed out that the main cause of road trauma in Bulgaria is extremely poor infrastructure, rather than the behavior of individual drivers.
His expert position is a kind of call for rethinking the institutional model, where modernization and efficiency must be the guiding principles.
Prof. Vuchkov's statement provoked serious interest among political circles and media, initiating a discussion about the necessary transformations in the internal security system.
