Reorganization and increased control in "Automotive Administration"
The relocation of the Executive Agency "Automotive Administration" is among the leading topics in the transport sector. Minister of Transport Georgi Peev emphasized that the sector is the "circulatory system" of the economy, serving over 22,000 companies and 103,000 vehicles.
"The huge number of permits and transport services creates prerequisites for corrupt practices, and therefore a working group will be created to limit these risks," stated Peev.
Key changes and challenges:
- Structural changes: A transfer of functions to the Ministry of Interior is being considered for stricter control on the road.
- Administrative burden: The Ministry is working on new bylaws to the Public Transport Act, although the deadlines are extremely tight.
- Mobility Package: Bulgaria continues to challenge the EU's discriminatory regulations, which threaten the competitiveness of domestic carriers.
The Minister warned that failure to comply with European requirements could lead to serious financial sanctions for the country, reaching tens of thousands of euros per day. An in-depth analysis is forthcoming to determine whether the restructuring of the Agency will lead to better coordination between institutions.
