President Rumen Radev awarded the Order of Madara Horseman, First Class, to the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in the federal state of Hesse, Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Ingo-Endrik Lankau.
The official ceremony took place in the Coat of Arms Hall of "Dondukov" 2, where the head of state honored Dr. Lankau for his contribution to the development and deepening of relations between Bulgaria and Germany. The award also reflects his many years of work in support of Bulgarian institutions and citizens.
The atmosphere in the presidency, where the solemn event was held, was filled with formality. President Rumen Radev emphasized at the ceremony that Dr. Lankau has played a key role in strengthening the ties between Bulgaria and the province of Hesse for two decades. He also noted the active cultural exchange and cooperation in the field of fire safety and disaster protection. The President also did not fail to mention Dr. Lankau's contribution to the construction of the General Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population" as a modern European structure, as well as his gratuitous assistance and donations in support of Bulgarian institutions.
"With your selfless activity and expert contribution, you have proven that you are a person with a generous heart, high civic engagement and sincere empathy", said President Radev. He wished Dr. Lankau health, longevity and "inspiring presence in all his public endeavors".
Dr. Ingo-Endrik Lankau expressed his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him. He stated that he has always worked with heart and soul for the promotion of Bulgaria in Germany. Dr. Lankau recalled that as an honorary consul since 2004, he has strived to make Bulgaria "more visible politically, economically and socially" in the province of Hesse.
"Europe needs Bulgaria, and Bulgaria needs Europe", emphasized Dr. Lankau. He noted that his main mission is to overcome prejudices and to present Bulgaria as a country with a rich culture, a highly educated population and great economic opportunities. Dr. Lankau shared that he has always followed two principles - never to criticize Bulgaria abroad and always to act in its support when invited to do so.
On his initiative, a long-term partnership was established between Hesse and Bulgaria in the field of fire fighting. This includes regular exchange and training of Bulgarian firefighters in the specialized school of the province. "It is a great honor and pleasure for me to work for Bulgaria and I hope to continue this mission in the future", said Dr. Lankau.
A speech was also delivered by Matilda Mateva, a student at the Specialized Natural-Mathematical High School "Acad. Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" - Botevgrad, who, within the framework of the initiative "Manager for a day", played the role of "president" for one day, hosted by the presidential administration. Mateva delivered her entire speech in German, expressing her gratitude for Dr. Lankau's contribution to the development and deepening of relations between Bulgaria and Germany.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Iliana Yotova, representatives of the Ministry of Interior and guests from Germany.
