President Rumen Radev will conduct a two-day working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on August 27 and 28, aimed at deepening strategic relations and economic cooperation between the two countries. The visit, officially announced by the press secretariat of the head of state, includes meetings at the highest state level and participation in key industrial events.
Meeting with the German President
As part of his program, President Radev will be received in Berlin by his German counterpart, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This meeting is expected to strengthen the partnership between Bulgaria and Germany, discussing topics of mutual interest, including bilateral relations, European security, and economic stability.
Opening of a high-tech factory
The culmination of the visit is the participation of the Bulgarian head of state in the opening ceremony of a high-tech factory in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony, at the invitation of Armin Papperger, CEO of Europe's largest defense concern, "Rheinmetall". The event, which will gather industry representatives and government delegations, emphasizes the strategic importance of cooperation in the field of defense.
This visit is a logical continuation of a series of meetings and talks between Rumen Radev and Armin Papperger, which began during the Munich Security Conference in February of this year. At that meeting, specific areas for investment and industrial cooperation were identified and defined, encompassing both the Bulgarian defense industry and the scientific sector.
Following the agreements reached, in March Papperger visited Bulgaria at the invitation of the head of state. During his visit to the presidency, he held meetings with leading representatives of the Bulgarian defense industry and the executive branch, which laid the foundations for future joint projects.
Future cooperation
The development of these relations received concrete expression at the end of July, when the Minister of Economy and Industry, Petar Dilov, presented a concept for the creation of a joint venture between the state-owned company VMZ and the German concern "Rheinmetall". This move is seen as an important step towards the modernization of the Bulgarian defense industry and the strengthening of its positions on the international market.
