Emergency inspections by the Basin Directorate in the Bay of Burgas
Experts from the Black Sea Basin Directorate responded immediately to reports of environmental pollution in the Burgas region. Concerns were raised by reports of fuel oil on the shores of Sarafovo Beach and information regarding an oil slick spotted in the waters of the Burgas Bay.
During the inspection of Sarafovo Beach, the teams did not find any presence of petroleum products on the surface of the seawater.
Inspection details:
- Samples for analysis: Water samples were taken for laboratory testing for the presence of volatile organic compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
- Coastal observation: Experts walked the coastal area from Pomorie to Ravda to track the movement of the suspected oil slick.
- Results: At the moment, no visible traces of pollution have been found in the mentioned areas.
The Basin Directorate assures that the public will be promptly informed as soon as the results of the laboratory analyses become clear. If necessary, the institutions are prepared to take follow-up measures to protect the marine ecosystem.
