Prosecutor's investigation launched over felled linden trees in Varna

The District Prosecutor's Office in Varna has launched an investigation into the removal of seven linden trees in the city center. The prosecution's actions follow media reports that raised questions about the tree-felling procedure.

"It must be determined whether the felling of the trees is lawful and whether there is evidence of a crime or an administrative violation," the prosecutor's office clarified.

Case timeline

According to official data, the Odesos district municipality requested the removal of the trees on the grounds that they were dangerous. An expert from the Varna Municipality confirmed this assessment, which led to the issuance of an order and the removal of the vegetation on May 12.

An interesting detail in the case is that, more than a month before the felling order, the district municipality had issued a permit for planting new trees in the same locations.
