Interim Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has taken decisive action, requesting that the Burgas prosecutor's office hand over the investigation into a serious incident at the Sunny Beach resort to the National Investigation Service (NIS). This decision comes in response to a road traffic accident in which a young man, the son of police officers, injured five pedestrians while driving an ATV.
The scene of the incident, known for its vibrant nightlife, was one of chaos and alarm. Dozens of passersby and tourists witnessed the incident, and the atmosphere was tense, with a strong public reaction. This move by the prosecutor's office aims to ensure maximum objectivity and professionalism in a process that is under close public scrutiny.
Case transferred to the NIS
According to the official statement from prosecutor Sarafov, the transfer of the case to the NIS is necessary due to the "legal complexity of the case" and the need for an investigation to be led by a "highly qualified and experienced investigator".
The incident raises serious questions about pedestrian safety in resort areas, as well as the operation of unregulated vehicles such as ATVs on public roads.
As part of the investigation to be taken over by the NIS, a thorough analysis of a "significant amount of evidence" will be carried out. The experts will be tasked with reconstructing the exact picture of what happened and carrying out various expert assessments that are key to establishing the objective truth. The goal is to clarify all the facts and circumstances in order to determine the driver's criminal liability.
The development of the case is being followed with heightened attention, and the actions of the prosecutor's office are expected to ensure that justice will prevail and that adequate measures will be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
