The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office took official legal action by filing a complaint against the decision of the Sofia City Court related to the registration of the "Old Calendar Orthodox Church in Bulgaria" (SKPTSB) on July 24, 2025.
Law enforcement authorities raise serious objections regarding the registration procedure, emphasizing violations of the Denominations Act. According to the prosecution, the use of the term "orthodox" requires strict compliance with established constitutional and religious traditions.
The institution emphasizes that the court incorrectly applied the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, while simultaneously neglecting the essential legal requirements for protecting national religious identity.
Additional weight to the arguments is given by the official position of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Patriarchate, which categorically declares its status as the only recognized traditional orthodox institution in the country.
The scientific community, represented by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, also supports the position through an official letter to state institutions, which further strengthens the prosecution's legal argumentation.
