The renowned pulmonary specialist and public commentator Prof. Dr. Kosta Kostov presents a critical view of the current challenges facing Bulgarian society. In his newest book "Black and White", he shares 70 original texts, each prompted by a specific public occasion.

With a sharp journalistic position, Kostov defines contemporary Bulgarian democracy as an "oligarchic autocracy", emphasizing the need for morally elevated leaders. According to him, the true people consist of citizens with clear consciousness, who vote by conscience and are capable of initiating spiritual and political renewal.

As a healthcare expert, he does not spare criticism of the existing system. "Bulgaria has better medical professionals than the system deserves", the professor states decisively. He insists that intellectuals should boldly enter public dialogue, but only briefly - enough to establish moral foundations without losing their identity in the political environment.

Kostov quotes the poet Ivan Dinkov with his optimistic metaphor: "Even under the deepest mud there is solid ground", believing that Bulgaria possesses potential for recovery and development. His position combines professional analysis with a deep civic commitment.

In the context of healthcare, he points to smoking as the main cause of chronic pulmonary diseases and insists on more serious state attention to preventive examinations such as spirometry.

The interview reveals Prof. Kostov's personality as a principled intellectual who is not afraid to express critical positions. "I have borne all the risks of my love of freedom", he declares, demonstrating readiness to defend his views.

His book "Black and White" serves as a kind of diagnostic review of contemporary Bulgarian society - with its diseases, challenges, but also with hope for positive changes. Kostov believes there are enough committed and honest Bulgarians who can initiate the necessary transformations.

Through his journalism, Prof. Dr. Kosta Kostov establishes himself as a voice that not only comments but also provokes public debate, directing attention to the essential problems of our national reality.
