Pomorie Municipality Reviews Project for Water Supply to Agricultural Crops
A significant investment proposal is currently under review by the Pomorie Municipality, raising questions about environmental protection in the region. The project, submitted by the joint-stock company "Chernomorsko zlato" (Black Sea Gold), aims to provide an independent water supply for irrigating agricultural lands in the locality of "Koshari" (The Sheepfolds), located within the cadastral district of the village of Belodol. The initiative envisages the use of groundwater from pre-existing water sources, designated as TK-2 and TK-3, located on a property with identifier 27440.8.50 according to the cadastral map.
The project has been submitted for a screening decision on the need for a full environmental impact assessment (EIA), in accordance with the requirements of Article 93, Paragraph 1 of the Environmental Protection Act. This process is of key importance for ensuring that such investment intentions will not cause lasting damage to the ecosystems and water resources in the area.
The local authorities are acting in compliance with legal provisions to ensure transparency and the possibility of public participation in decision-making.
Detailed information about the investment proposal is available to all interested parties. The documents have been published on the official website of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) – Burgas. Access to them is provided through the section "Preventive Activity / EIA / Notifications for Access to a Request (Appendix No. 2, EIA Regulation)". This is an important step to ensure publicity, allowing citizens, environmental organizations, and other interested persons to get acquainted with the project parameters in detail.
The Pomorie Municipality invites all interested parties to participate in the process. Opinions, statements, and objections can be submitted within a 14-day period from the publication of the notification. Documents are accepted every working day at the Pomorie Municipality building at "Solna" St. No. 5, in the Administrative Services Center. This opportunity for direct citizen participation in the administrative process underscores the commitment of the local government to the principles of openness and dialogue.
The project raises significant questions about the sustainable development of the region, balancing the economic needs of agriculture with the need to preserve valuable natural resources. The decision of the municipal administration, which will be made after the completion of the public discussion, will have a long-term impact on the future of the area and its environmental stability.
