Petition for safer roads
The political formation "We Continue the Change" has initiated an online petition demanding an immediate inspection and replacement of highway guardrails in Bulgaria. The move follows the increasing number of serious traffic accidents in which trucks have broken through the barriers and entered oncoming traffic.
"Human life cannot be worth less than a quality guardrail," the party emphasizes.
In their demands, "We Continue the Change" focuses on:
- Independent technical inspection: A full audit of existing guardrails and transparency regarding the results.
- Urgent replacement: Replacing compromised structures with ones that meet the requirements for heavy traffic loads.
- Review of public procurement: A full audit of specifications, pricing, and oversight in road construction.
- Accountability: A demand for real consequences for contracting authorities and contractors in cases of established violations.
According to the authors of the petition, citizens pay millions for road infrastructure that should guarantee safety, rather than be "like breadsticks" in the event of a collision.
