The upcoming presidential elections can become a key moment for reorienting Bulgaria, according to a leading political analyst from the "Democratic Bulgaria" party. In an exclusive interview with a national television channel, General Atanas Atanasov outlined a sharp picture of the current political situation in the country.
The political leader emphasized that the current four-party coalition demonstrates exceptional self-confidence when appointing key government positions. According to him, they completely disregard the opposition, not even offering minimal partnership in various committees and regulatory bodies.
"We see signs of hidden dictatorship," Atanasov was categorical, pointing out that there exists a "parallel center of power". His formation aims to be the center of democratic forces that can change the country's political course.
An interesting moment in his analysis was the assessment of the current president Rumen Radev. The general hinted that the head of state is highly disappointed by the lack of early parliamentary elections, which would open political horizons for him. According to Atanasov, Radev has deviated from the essence of the presidential position - to be a unifier of the nation.
An additional emphasis was placed on geopolitical orientation. Atanasov openly criticized the president for his excessive dependence on Russian influence, especially after the start of the war in Ukraine. He emphasized the exceptional importance of democratic forces to nominate a candidate with a clear Western orientation.
Regarding internal political alliances, the general also commented on the relationship with Boyko Borissov. He categorically stated that "We Continue the Change" voters will not support Borissov as a presidential candidate, although there are attempts at political compromises.
Atanas Atanasov's key message is that the upcoming presidential elections are more than an ordinary political campaign - they are an opportunity for a fundamental transformation of the Bulgarian political system and restoration of democratic principles.
