On Thracian Day, we remember the selflessness of generations of enlighteners and revolutionaries, the glorious Adrianople epic and the victories of the Bulgarian soldier. This is stated in the congratulatory address on the occasion of Thracian Day by President Iliana Iotova, the press secretariat of the head of state announced.

We are reliving the terrible summer of 1913 and the vicissitudes of the long and merciless 20th century. The memory of the processions of refugees, of the ruined ancestral houses and abandoned fields, of the mercilessly erased Bulgarian presence in native Thrace, comes alive, says the president.

According to her, the Thracian Bulgarians are a measure of dignity and nobility. From their suffering historical wisdom we draw that reconciliation and forgiveness are the only path to lasting peace, understanding and a better future for our children, Iotova adds.

The head of state states that every year on March 26, the Thracians honor their brave ancestors, send a call for justice and raise their voices against oblivion. "Although uprooted from their land, in their souls our ancestors never left the Aegean Sea. They did not allow the invisible connection with the ancestral hearths to be broken, they did not abandon the hope that sooner or later their longing for justice would find its satisfaction," says the president.

Iliana Iotova expresses her gratitude to the Union of Thracian Societies in Bulgaria, with chairman Krasimir Premyanov, for the tireless efforts to keep the Thracian cause alive, so that it reaches our children as a dear testament. "Through people like you, the Bulgarian spirit, our ancestral and national memory withstand the test of time," the president adds. She again assures the Thracian Bulgarians of the unwavering support of the presidential institution for their cause of upholding historical truth and their truthful demands.

Thracian Day is celebrated on the initiative of the Thracian societies in Bulgaria and with a decree of the Council of Ministers from March 23, 2006. On this day, the feat of the Bulgarian soldiers who died near Adrianople, as well as the memory of the thousands of Thracian refugees, is commemorated.
