Prime Minister Radev: 2026 Budget with a deficit over 3%, but no income cuts

The caretaker government is planning a change in the philosophy of budgeting. Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev announced that there will be no mass layoffs in the administration and no income cuts, despite the large budget deficit.

Budget 2026: A New Financial Strategy

Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced that the state budget deficit for 2026 will exceed 3%. The cabinet's main focus is on changing the philosophy of budgeting, which has hitherto been based on unsustainable expenditure growth.

"Our greatest challenge is to change the philosophy of the budget and the trajectory of planning, instead of relying on financial gymnastics," stated Radev.

Radev confirmed that American military aircraft will remain at "Vasil Levski" airport until the end of June. The Prime Minister emphasized that the USA remains a strategic partner of Bulgaria in the fields of energy, economy, and high technology.
