Budget Update: Restoration of Shipka and Science
The Council of Ministers has adopted changes to the medium-term budgetary forecast for the period 2026-2028. The decision follows the final adoption of the 2026 state budget and aims to optimize expenditures without changing the main fiscal parameters.
The funds are intended for the implementation of restoration and conservation activities on the facades of the Monument to Freedom on Shipka Peak.
Key changes in capital expenditures:
- Monument to Freedom: 2 million euros have been secured for the facades of the historic site.
- Scientific activity: 51.1 thousand euros have been allocated to the Scientific Institute "Western Outlands".
The funding for the institute will support the research and promotion of Bulgarian cultural and spiritual heritage. The funds were redirected from the capital expenditures of the National Assembly and the maintenance costs of the Ministry of Education.
Fiscal framework for 2026
The 2026 budget, adopted in July, provides for a deficit of 5.7% of GDP and the possibility of new debt of up to 10.1 billion euros, while the minimum wage is frozen at 620.20 euros.
With these changes, the government aims to increase transparency and manage public resources more effectively, laying the groundwork for the next budget cycle in 2027.
