PP attacks the 2026 Budget before the Constitutional Court
The parliamentary group of "We Continue the Change" (PP) has officially announced its intention to file a complaint with the Constitutional Court (CC) against the 2026 State Budget Act. The decision was announced by Asen Vasilev following the news that Vice President Iliana Iotova will promulgate the law.
This budget contains unconstitutional provisions. We are confident that the Constitutional Court will stop them so that they do not harm Bulgarian families and businesses, stated Asen Vasilev.
Criticism of the presidential institution
According to Vasilev, the presidency's refusal to exercise its veto power turns the institution into a "press office of the government." He emphasized that instead of fulfilling its role as a corrective, the president has left in effect a budget that, according to PP, is harmful to the country.
Main arguments of PP:
- Opaque expenditures: Over 1 billion euros for municipalities will be distributed at the discretion of one person.
- Financial burden: According to the party's calculations, every citizen will pay 400 euros by the end of the year, with 300 of them having an unclear purpose.
- Subversion of the mandate: Asen Vasilev accused the president of changing his behavior, which contradicts voters' expectations for transparent governance.
PP had already submitted a petition with over 32,000 signatures to the president, urging for a veto, but after it was not used, legal proceedings remain the only way to challenge the provisions.
