Today, on the day Bulgarian firefighters celebrate their professional holiday, they are battling the merciless flames of a forest fire that has broken out above the world-famous Rila Monastery.
The situation is serious, and smoke rises above the picturesque slopes, overshadowing the beauty of this national symbol. According to the latest data, the fire has engulfed about 900 decares of high-mountain territory, mainly on the south side of the monastery.
The fire is moving slowly but relentlessly towards more humid and hilly terrain, which gives hope for limiting its spread.
Three teams from the regional fire service are deployed on the ground, facing the difficult conditions of the mountainous terrain.
Their professionalism and selflessness are crucial in the fight against this elemental disaster, which threatens not only the ecological richness of the region, but also the historical and cultural heritage located in the surroundings of the Rila Monastery.
Perhaps this is why they are facing this challenge on this significant day for them.
Many, observing from a distance, share a feeling of helplessness in the face of the might of nature, but also of deep respect for the selfless work of the firefighters, whose work is essential for the safety and peace of mind of Bulgarian citizens.
