Increased security measures in Bulgarian territorial waters
In connection with a maritime drone incident in the area of the Romanian port of Constanta, the Bulgarian Navy has taken measures for increased surveillance. The goal is to ensure the safety of navigation and protect maritime spaces.
The entire capacity of the "Ekran-M" coastal system, "Panther" and "Cougar" helicopters, as well as specialized unmanned aerial systems, are involved in the surveillance.
What actions is the Ministry of Defense taking?
- Use of the "Ekran-M" radar system for monitoring.
- Aerial reconnaissance with helicopters and UAVs.
- Surveillance of the coastline in Northeastern Bulgaria.
- Coordination with the Romanian Navy and NATO Command (MARCOM).
A zone temporarily dangerous for navigation has been declared, and all vessels in the area have been warned. In Romania, authorities are searching for debris from a group of five drones in total, after one exploded near Constanta and another on the territory of Ukraine.
