End of speculation about an electric 911
Porsche has officially put an end to the debates regarding the future of its icon – the 911 model. The company's CEO, Michael Steiner, stated categorically that the iconic sports car will not transition to a fully electric powertrain.
"There will never be an all-electric 911. We stand firmly behind this decision," Steiner emphasized during the German manufacturer's annual general meeting.
The hybrid as a strategy for the future
Instead of full electrification, Porsche is betting on high-performance hybrid systems. These are seen not as a temporary step, but as a key element that will allow the 911 to meet strict environmental regulations without losing its character.
- The 911 remains the only model in the Porsche lineup without a fully electric equivalent.
- The company continues to invest in synthetic fuels (e-fuels) as an alternative to electromobility.
- The 2035 strategy includes optimizing the brand's complex portfolio.
Changes to the Porsche portfolio
Although models like the Macan, Boxster, and Cayman are switching to electricity, Steiner admits that the brand needs to simplify. Porsche plans to reduce the number of variants to refocus on brand "clarity." In addition, the company is considering projects such as a new three-row SUV and a potential successor to the 918 Spyder hypercar.
In a world of mass electrification, Porsche is choosing a different path, betting on a balance between tradition and innovation, ensuring that the legendary experience behind the wheel of the 911 will remain intact.
