The municipal authorities in Pomorie are tightening control over electric vehicle movement in the urban environment, after systematically observing violations of existing regulations. Regulation No. 5 for transportation activity organization, which came into effect in 2023, categorically prohibits the movement of electric scooters, mopeds, and bicycles on sidewalk areas, but practice shows persistent disregard for the introduced rules.

In response to the current situation, Mayor Ivan Alexiev initiated a working meeting with representatives of the local police department - Chief Inspector Petar Todorov and Police Inspector Georgi Dimitrov. The main focus of the discussion was related to the risky management of electric vehicles by minors.

"Our main goal is to minimize potential incidents in the central city area," emphasized the mayor. He categorically stated that it is not acceptable for children to operate high-speed scooters and mopeds in areas intended for pedestrians.

The joint decision of the administration and police involves drastic measures when violations are detected. For individuals under 18 years of age, forced confiscation of vehicles will be applied, which will only be returned in the presence of a parent. Monetary sanctions will range between 20 and 50 leva.

Only the pedestrian alley on P. Yavorov Street, connecting the central city area with the St. George neighborhood, will remain a shared space for cyclists and pedestrians. Nevertheless, electric vehicles continue to be completely prohibited.

The municipality calls on citizens to show responsibility and adhere to the introduced rules, while continuing to inform the public about the measures taken through various communication channels.
