The residents of Pomorie are peculiar people - with a firm character and a noble soul. Our genes carry the proud spirit of the Proto-Bulgarians, the refinement of the Thracians, and the innate diplomacy of the Byzantines. A city with a glorious past and free-thinking people. However, the glorious past of the city is not without difficult moments. After severe fires and devastating battles, our city has risen again and again. Today we celebrate one of these resurrections – it has been 148 years since the cold winter in which Pomorie became a free city. This happened in the final phase of the Liberation War - on February 7, 1878. Shortly after that, the Treaty of San Stefano was signed. For Anhialo – Pomorie, a new period of exceptional importance for the future began.

Today, the ceremony to mark the bright anniversary began with a thanksgiving prayer in the church "Holy Nativity of the Theotokos", served by Father Boris Georgiev.

All those present at the city-wide celebration recalled the value of freedom. They also recalled one of the most powerful and touching Bulgarian songs. "You are beautiful, my forest" performed by Stefani Ilieva - a former student of Ivan Vazov Secondary School and Mrs. Elena Koeva, with current vocal pedagogue Milena Dobreva.

Children from the Children's Folklore Dance Ensemble "Rakovina" with leader Vladimir Danailov, the youths from the XX Guard Detachment at Ivan Vazov Secondary School - Pomorie with leaders Diana Blagoeva and Georgi Vrazhev, and the presenters Alex Alexieva and Alexander Goranov also took part in the festive program.

Wreaths and flowers were laid in front of the memorial plaques and the bust-monument of Levski in the center of Pomorie by Mayor Ivan Aleksiev, municipal councilors, public figures, residents and guests.
