The Historical Testament of Petrova Niva
A national pilgrimage took place at the sacred site of Petrova Niva near Malko Tarnovo to mark the 123rd anniversary of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising. Vice President Iliana Iotova emphasized that the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for freedom must remain alive and be passed on to future generations.
"We will not renounce you and will protect your rights – this is the true interpretation of the testament of the Ilinden revolutionaries," the head of state declared regarding relations with the Republic of North Macedonia.
Unity and National Responsibility
In her speech, Iotova recalled the tragic fate of the Strandzha Republic and the heroism of ordinary people – teachers, young and old – who fought for a unified Bulgaria. Key highlights of the ceremony:
- Historical Continuity: The role of descendants and Thracian organizations in preserving ancestral memory.
- Religious Tribute: Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven held a memorial service, reminding everyone that "a people who forget their dead lose their living."
- Statesmanlike Position: The Mayor of Malko Tarnovo, Ilian Yanchev, emphasized that freedom is not a given, but a personal choice and a constant responsibility.
The event concluded with a solemn roll call and the laying of wreaths as a sign of gratitude before the memorial to the heroes.
