Three police officers were injured while performing their official duties to maintain public order, the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs (SDVR) announced.

During a protest declared as peaceful in front of the National Assembly building this evening, some of the protesters attempted to break through the cordon and threw bottles and firecrackers at the police officers, the SDVR stated. Two officers were transported for medical examinations to a hospital, according to the Sofia police.

The SDVR calls on protesters to express their civic position peacefully and to avoid provocations and violations of the law.

Earlier this evening, the protest against the adoption of the budget escalated. Protesters tried to overturn a police bus on Dondukov Blvd., but were pushed back by the gendarmerie. After that, the protesters began throwing firecrackers and glass objects at the police officers.
