Commemoration at the memorial near Burgas Airport

A symbolic laying of flowers and wreaths in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack at Sarafovo Airport took place today at the memorial near the airport. The gesture was made a day before the anniversary of the tragedy, as this year July 18 coincides with the Sabbath, and according to Jewish religious tradition, official commemorative events are not held on that day.

On July 18, 2012, five Israeli tourists and the Bulgarian bus driver Mustafa Kyosov were killed in the terrorist attack, and dozens of others were injured.

Officials and institutions paid tribute to the victims

A wreath was laid on behalf of the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Dimitar Nikolov, and the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Religious Denominations, Diana Savateva, laid flowers at the memorial. The ceremony was also attended by:

The event was attended by the father of the late driver Mustafa Kyosov, the Consul of Israel in Bulgaria Ortal Alkelay, and the Honorary Consul Orlin Mandov. Every year, the memory of the victims unites Bulgaria and Israel in the common message that terrorism has no place in the modern world.
