Tomislav Tomov from the Specialized Secondary School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics "Acad. Nikola Obreshkov" in Burgas is the winner for Bulgaria in the Juvenes Translatores competition, the press service of the European Commission announced. The competition is funded under the Erasmus+ program.
Special commendations are also awarded to Alexander Angelov from the Specialized Secondary School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics "Acad. Nikola Obreshkov" in Burgas, Alexandra Stefanova from Secondary School "Vasil Levski" in Karlovo, Darina Drumeva from the Foreign Language School "Dr. Ivan Bogorov" in Dimitrovgrad, Gabriela Gocheva and Teodor Drumev from the Language High School "Peyo Yavorov" in Silistra.
Bulgaria was represented by 80 students from 17 schools. A total of 3004 students from 716 schools in the EU participated in the competition.
The students chose between 155 language combinations, including Bulgarian-Greek, Danish-Czech, Irish-Spanish and Croatian-Swedish.
The awards ceremony will take place in Brussels on March 27, 2026.
Juvenes Translatores has been organized by the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission since 2007. The aim is to promote translation, multilingualism and foreign language learning. Multilingualism has been at the heart of the EU since 1958, when the first official languages were determined.
At last year's edition of the competition, Alexandra Atanasova from the Foreign Language High School "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" in Haskovo was honored from Bulgaria.
